Off to a Fresh Start with a Neighbourhood Partnership Grant!
Fresh Start, an Edinburgh based charity, took on a neglected patch of the allotments which was getting overgrown. To help them achieve their aim of creating an accessible growing space, we applied to the City of Edinburgh Council for a Neighbourhood Partnership Community Grant. We were awarded £1,363 to create raised beds, paths and to purchase a shed for storage and shelter.
Fresh Start worked alongside plot holders and corporate volunteers to clear the site and do the hard

Fantastic News
Fantastic news! The landowner's appeal has been dismissed, with the Scottish Reporter recognising the value of the site to the community as

Pruning workshop
Last Sunday we welcomed George Anderson (from Beechgrove Garden) to our allotments. It was fantastic to have George share his knowledge and expertise, with useful tips and guidance on fruit tree and bush pruning. We learned lots and had a chance to ask about common problems such as aphids and how to stop the spread of disease. And as if all that wasn't great enough, there was also tea and cake! A perfect day. Many thanks to all those who contributed. #News

Allotment Open Day 2016
A massive thank you to everyone who contributed at this years Open Day, which was part of Scotland's Gardens Open Day 2016 and we thank them for their kind support. The plots were looking great, we had a lovely spread of cakes and home grown produce, a basket weaving workshop, the apple press on loan from PEDAL was a big hit, and to accompany it all we had some amazing live music. It really was a great team effort and a huge success. It was good to see our local MSP Ash Denha

Allotments Open Day - Sunday 7th August
This year we have been accepted on to Scotland's Garden Open Day scheme, which is a great achievement for our allotments. On Sunday 7th August from 2-5 pm we will be opening our gates to the public. To make this day a success we need your help, and there's lots of ways you can get involved. We are looking for volunteers to leaflet at Portobello Market on Saturday 6th August. If you are free on the 7th, please let us know if you can help out. We need people to help set up, co

Lauren's Hedgehog House
Keep a lookout on the allotments for hedgehogs. They are having a tough time environmentally and anything we can do to encourage them would be great. They'll also chomp your snails and slugs at night while you're tucked up in bed. Lauren's doing her bit. She doesn't have an allotment but lives locally and asked if she could put a hedgehog house on the allotments. Lauren will visit regularly and has asked us to look out for any hedgehog activity. #News

New Local Development Plan
The Scottish Government has finally published the Local Development Plan. The current landowner had requested the open space designation be removed. City of Edinburgh Council refused this request and it went to the Scottish Reporter as an unresolved issue under the LDP. The Reporter refused the removal of open space designation. This is great news! You can read the reasons for the Reporters decision at the end of this blog post. We're now working towards the future and look f

A short film about our allotments
This short film gives us a glimpse into the wonderful diversity of people who tend the Craigentinny Telferton allotments and the shared experience of well-being through tending plots. In the face of a potential housing development the film captures the personal stories and meaning that a seemingly insignificant piece of land brings to so many people. #News
