
Allotments Open Day - Sunday 7th August
This year we have been accepted on to Scotland's Garden Open Day scheme, which is a great achievement for our allotments. On Sunday 7th August from 2-5 pm we will be opening our gates to the public. To make this day a success we need your help, and there's lots of ways you can get involved. We are looking for volunteers to leaflet at Portobello Market on Saturday 6th August. Lauren's Hedgehog House
Keep a lookout on the allotments for hedgehogs. They are having a tough time environmentally and anything we can do to encourage them would be great. They'll also chomp your snails and slugs at night while you're tucked up in bed. Lauren's doing her bit. She doesn't have an allotment but lives locally and asked if she could put a hedgehog house on the allotments. Lauren will visit regularly and has asked us to look out for any hedgehog activity. #News

Caramelised red onion tart
6-8 red onions Olive oil Balsamic vinegar Brown sugar Packet ready made puff pastry Parmesan Feta cheese Fresh basil leaves Cherry tomatoes Chop onions into thin slices, soften in pan with olive oil. Add two table spoons balsamic vinegar with a heaped table spoon of brown sugar adding a dash of water if required. Stir till onions soft and caramelised, season. New Local Development Plan
The Scottish Government has finally published the Local Development Plan. The current landowner had requested the open space designation be removed. City of Edinburgh Council refused this request and it went to the Scottish Reporter as an unresolved issue under the LDP. The Reporter refused the removal of open space designation.
