This short film gives us a glimpse into the wonderful diversity of people who tend the Craigentinny Telferton allotments and the shared experience of well-being through tending plots. In the face of a potential housing development the film captures the personal stories and meaning that a seemingly insignificant piece of land brings to so many people. #News


Creamed leeks with parmesan on toast
40g unsalted butter 2 medium leeks, washed and thinly sliced 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 100ml double cream 30g Parmesan, grated 2 thick slices of crusty white bread salt and freshly ground pepper Melt the butter in a heavy based saucepan. Sprinkle the leek slices with salt and soften in the melted butter for about five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the mustard and cream. Avocado cock-a-leekie
25g butter Two chicken breasts, cut into strips 250g young leeks; I used 4 thin leeks straight from the allotment, washed and thinly sliced 850ml / One and a half pints hot chicken stock 1 ripe avocado peeled and sliced When ready to serve, 1 tablespoon freshly chopped coriander Melt butter in a saucepan, season chicken and fry for a few minutes. This May we welcome Fresh Start and Basics Bank to our allotments. They have taken on a community plot, to be worked by volunteers with the aim of growing food to donate to food banks in Edinburgh. Food Bank Donations
From 1st April this year, we have a box for donating surplus fruit and veg to our local food bank. So far donations have included leeks, potatoes, onions, broccoli and rhubarb. A big thank you to those who have already made donations, keep them coming, it's all greatly appreciated and nothing goes to waste. #News


Fantastic News! Allotments Saved
On Wednesday 13th April Edinburgh Council refused the planning application submitted by Avant Homes to build on the allotments. There was recognition of the huge benefits that allotments provide, not just in encouraging healthy eating and exercise, but also for mental health, general well-being and social contact. The application was deeply unpopular, receiving 281 comments, with only 1% in favour of the proposal, 278 against. This, along with a submitted petition of over 300
